Sensitization program was organised by Multidisciplinary research unit (MRU) on "Short Term Studentship (STS) ICMR – workshop: Research opportunities to undergraduates" and Introduction to MRU research facilities for first and second years undergraduate M.B.B.S. students, from the duration 14 October 2022 to 19 October 2022.
The main objective of workshop session is to provide students an insight about Medical research opportunities along with that sensitised about Short Term Studentship (STS) funded by ICMR and to introduce undergraduate students to Multidisciplinary research laboratory facility of college. The program was initiated with the Inauguration and Welcome address by MRU nodal officer , Dr. Hetal Desai (Prof. and HOD, Physiology department). After then students were Introduced to Multidisciplinary Research Unit (MRU) by MRU co-nodal officer, Dr. Ashvinkumar Vachhani. Followed by technical sessions "How to initiate STS process? From online registration to Topic selection" by MRU nodal officer, Dr. Hetal Desai (Prof. and HOD, Physiology department). The talk covered brief understanding STS process.
The next talk was Dr. Avani Kasture, Scientist II MRU regarding "Proposal writing" The talk covered overview & technical requirement regarding writing process along with various aspects of current medical research. Afterwards the detail explanation about writing proposals students are preface to Statistical analysis, IPR, Publication by Dr. Silver Panchal, Scientist-I, MRU with great length. The workshop was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Ekta Desai Co- Nodal Officer. In the workshop student provided pre and post- workshop questionnaire in the format of Google form, after analysing the responses from the students, we could conclude that the workshop aiding them for sensitization and improving their understanding for the said subject significantly.
After the workshop over, the visit "Introduction to MRU research facilities" was organized by MRU Department. The visit was executed by MRU scientist Dr. Avani Kasture, Scientist II and Dr. Silver Panchal, Scientist-I, MRU with an aim to go beyond academics, Understanding role of equipment and research methodology has provided the students a practical perspective on the world of research work, which itself became an outstanding opportunity to interact with scientists and know more about research environment. It also provided the students with a prospect to learn practically through interaction and working methods. The students enthusiastically and actively participated in the entire session.
