Water Quality

Treatment Of Water

Water treatment plants consist of units like stilling chamber, Parshall flume, Flash Mixer, Sludge blanket lamella clarifier with hopper bottom shape, Rapid gravity sand filter beds with false floor slab having PP nozzles & pneumatically operated valve arrangement, Chemical house with chemical storage & dosing facilities, backwash tank and clear water sump etc. All the controls of valves, motors & flow measurements of these semi-automatic plants are carried out from the control panel located in control room of the plant.

Treatment given to water:

  • Pre-Chlorination
  • Alum dosing/mixing
  • Clariflocculation by sludge blanket Lamella type clarifiers
  • Filtration by declining rate type rapid gravity sand filters
  • Post Chlorination

Water Quality Monitoring

Water Quality is maintained as per drinking water standards given in IS:10500. Sampling of water is done at different stages to ascertain & assure right quality of water supplied to consumers. Detail of water sampling is given below:

Stage Type of Test Frequency
Source (River) at stilling chamber Turbidity, FRC, DO, pH Online
Turbidity, FRC, pH Hourly
Physical-Chemical tests Every shift of 8 hours
Bacteriological tests Weekly
WTP Outlet Turbidity, TDS, FRC, DO, pH Online
Turbidity, FRC, pH Hourly
Physical-Chemical tests Every shift of 8 hours
Bacteriological tests Weekly
Intermediate
(At WDS)
FRC, Turbidity
– during inlet from WTP
Once in every supply from WTP
FRC, Turbidity
- during supply to consumers
Twice in every supply to consumers.
Consumer end (During supply) FRC (At site) Daily 460-480 samples
Chemical test (Lab testing) Daily average 220 samples collected from all zones
