Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change (MoEF& CC) had launched National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) on 10thJanuary,2019 as a long term, time-bound, national-level strategy to tackle the air pollution problem across India in a comprehensive manner, with a target of 20-30% reduction in Particulate matter concentration by 2024, keeping 2017 as base year for comparison of concentration. Focused efforts are being made at this stage to attain tangible progress in air quality improvement. Under National Clean Air Programme (NCAP); 102 cities were declared as non-attainment cities, in which Surat also included as non-attainment city.
The Government of India, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has initialized the National Clean Air Program for the non attainment cities pertaining to Air Quality Improvement activities. GPCB has released to SMC the grant in aid of Rs. 6,00,00,000/- (Rupees Six Crore) to Surat Municipal Corporation towards Air quality improvement efforts.
Under National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) grant, following projects are taken by Surat Municipal Corporation as per the suggestions received from MoEF & CC:
